Beef and Cheese Casserole

Contemporary Belarusian Beef and Cheese Casserole recipe.


This is not really a traditional Belarusian dish, rather it is part of Soviet Cuisine. It is also known as "Meat. French Style". It is not an everyday dish and usually is prepared and served on occasions. So, if you ever visit a belarusian family chances are you will be treated with this gastronomical delight.

Ingredients (2 servings):
  • 1Lb beef;
  • 1 Onion;
  • 1/2 Cup grated cheese;
  • Black pepper 0.5 tea spoon;
  • Crushed Garlic to taste;
  • Salt to taste;
  • 1 Tbl sp. Sunflower oil;
  • 3 Tbl sp. Mayo
Cooking Instructions:

Beef Casserole IngredientsFirst, prepare ingredients. Peel onion and garlic.

Beef Casserole MeatCut a beef to the pieces.

Beef Casserole Mixed IngredientsPut beef pieces in a bowl. Add crashed garlic, salt and pepper and mix together.

Beef Casserole in Baking TrayTake a baking tray, add sunflower oil and lay out the beef on the baking tray.

Beef Casserole Minced OnionMince an onion.

Beef Casserole Meat and Minced OnionAdd minced onion to the beef.

Beef Casserole CheeseGrate cheese and put it on top of beef and minced onion.

Beef Casserole MayoAdd mayo.

Beef Casserole Ready
Put everything into the oven and cook 2 hours on medium heat.
Serve with mashed potatoes, french fries, pasta or rice

Draniki

Traditional belarusian potato pancakes recipe.


Draniki is a belarusian style shallow fried potato pancakes made of grated potatoes. It is a traditional belarusian dish still very popular in present day Belarus. There are many variations of this simple recipe, on of them we present here.

Ingredients (2 servings):
  • 5 Large potatoes;
  • 1 Egg;
  • 1 medium Onion;
  • Black pepper 0.5 tea spoon;
  • Salt to taste;
  • Sunflower Oil 7-8 tbl. spoons;
Cooking Instructions:


GraterFirst of all you will need a grater to grate potatoes and onions. Be sure that you use appropriate side of grater as shown on the picture so you don't grate potatoes into strips but rather into liquid mass. That what makes draniki unique.

Draniki IngredientsPrepare ingredients. Peel potatoes and onion.

Grating PotatoesGrate potatoes and onions into a bowl
Grating Onion

Draniki DoughAdd salt, pepper, egg and mix together. The substance should not be liquid, and should not be too thick, drain excess potato juice or add some flour to achieve required level of liquidity.
Draniki Dough Ready

Frying Pan OilHeat the frying pan, pour 1 tbl. spoon of sunflower oil onto it.

Draniki MakingDump a full table spoon of mixture form the bowl onto the frying pan and from a small about quarter inch thick pancake. Cook on high for 2-3 minutes and then flip over.

Draniki Golden BrownCook another 2-3 minutes until golden brown.

Draniki ServeServe hot with sour cream.
